The fun-loving family at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort wants the fun to continue after we return home with the help of a furry friend from the Humane Society of St. Thomas.

When we “Paws for Vacation” and adopt a cat or dog, like the island’s coconut retrievers, we will receive a 30% discount off room-only rates in Oceanview or Oceanfront rooms located steps from the sand. A minimum five-night stay is required for processing and health certifications for the adopted animal.

Bolongo Bay will also provide complimentary roundtrip taxi to the Humane Society for us to meet our new family member and begin the adoption process. The cost to adopt is $100 for a dog and $75 for a cat, including all vaccinations and health certificate.

In addition, the adopted animal will fly home free on American Airlines under the seat or in the cargo hold area. The Humane Society will provide a complimentary pet carrier, which it asks new owners to ship back to benefit other vacationers who rescue a pet.

“What better way to remember a vacation in the US Virgin Islands than a new four-legged friend,” says Katarina Doumeng, Sales, Marketing and Internet Director at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort who recently adopted her dog Kasey from the Humane Society of St. Thomas. “There are so many sweet animals looking for a home and a friend to have fun with. It’s a much better souvenir than a t-shirt or shot glass.”

If we are unable to adopt a pet, we can still “Lend a Paw” to help. The Humane Society of St. Thomas has a need for volunteers to escort animals on American Airlines flights to the US.

If we volunteer to fly back with a pet, we will receive a $50 dining credit to use during our stay. Opportunities to fly back are posted at the resort Front Desk.
