Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks

Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks is starting summer 2013 with a splash. Located on the boardwalk in the Wildwoods, NJ, the classic shore side destination celebrates the official opening weekend on Saturday, May 25, 2013, of all three piers – Surfside Pier, Adventure Pier, and Raging Waters Waterpark at Mariner’s Landing.

Located on Mariner’s Landing Pier, Raging Waters features beloved water rides and slides such as the River Adventure, Shotgun Falls, and the 175,000 gallon interactive activity pool. Operated by a team of highly-trained, certified lifeguards, Morey’s Piers’ waterparks recently received the Decade of Aquatic Safety Excellence Award, a prestigious accolade presented by Ellis & Associates, International Aquatic Safety and Risk Management consultants that showcases Morey’s leadership in waterpark safety.

When we visit Morey’s Piers this summer we will enjoy new and improved attractions including the complete makeover of the famed Zoom Phloom featuring hand carved seals and sea life out of the existing rockwork, and the freshly renovated Boat Tag ride on Adventure Pier. On Surfside Pier, we will find solace from the sun under the new rooftop covering on the second floor of Joe’s Fish Co. and sample the menu at the new Soggy Dollar Beach Bar opening June 15 at the Ocean Oasis Waterpark. The Soggy Dollar Beach Bar is open to the public. Waterpark admission is not required to enjoy a variety of lively libations, great food and open-air ocean views.

During Memorial Day weekend we can get a sneak peek of Morey’s Piers’ new artistic venture, artBOX, the first-of-its kind, 10,000 square foot interactive artists village crafted from re-purposed shipping containers.  Located on Adventure Pier, artBOX will make its grand opening debut on June 13th and feature handpicked local and regional artists showcasing paintings, handmade crafts, and live demonstrations that include surf art, glass blowing, artisanal jewelry and speed painting.  The shipping container colony also features an Exit Zero Museum Shop, carrying a collection of merchandise and nostalgic Wildwood and Jersey Cape memorabilia and Café 4B serving fresh sushi.

Puppetry Arts New York City

Puppetry Arts charitable community arts organization will host its annual Puppetry Arts Festival of Brooklyn on Saturday June 15th 11am-3pm on 4th Street at 5th Ave along the park at the Old Stone House. The festival is a day-long puppet theatre spectacular with puppet shows and meet n’ greet characters including a few famous faces.

Free admission and open to the public, the main stage will feature the work of The Nimals, Fantasy Puppet Theatre, Chris Palmieri, Charlie Kanev, Dan Heisey and Mariana Iranzi. Puppetry Arts will also perform showcasing its new show “What I Wanna Be” following three puppet characters that sing and dance about the jobs they wish to one day have.

A very special puppet performance workshop and sing a long will be hosted by puppeteer and author Noel MacNeal with his counterpart Lionel from “Between The Lions” of PBS fame at 2:00pm. Together with kids from the audience, Noel and Lionel will teach kids how to perform puppets and sing some of Lionel’s favorite tunes. Also visiting the event will be the one and only golden droid of Star Wars, C-3PO who will be available for photo opportunities at 11:30am and 1:30pm.

The festival will host puppet making craft and activities, rock climbing with Brooklyn Boulders, and features Gus Soda, Regal Cinemas, and raffles with puppet-tastic prizes including autographed photos from ALF of the hit 80’s TV series.

Puppetry Arts secures free puppet making workshops in public schools that coincide with the grade level curriculum, it produces free public performances of its original musicals for families and adults, and the organization hosts large community events that provide accessible and affordable family activities. Supporting all of these projects is the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP!) which is a civic-based volunteer program for youth. Puppetry Arts is in fact, the little organization that does big things!

Throughout the year, Puppetry Arts hosts free family events around the neighborhoods of Brooklyn as a way of creating a venue for itself to reach its target audience and fulfill its mission of providing affordable and accessible cultural and family enriching activities. Without a space of its own, venues like that of 4th Street gives the community arts organization the resources it needs to perform original puppet theatre, teach craft workshops, and raise funding for school and community programming.

Free admission 11am-3pm, $2 crafts, $3 t-shirt decorating, $4 bounce house, $8 rock climbing. First 200 kids get a free Puppetry Arts gift bag.

For information about this upcoming event or to contribute to their mission visit www.puppetryarts.org or call 718-768-3703.
