There’s no better way to get away this summer than with Gaylord Hotels’ SummerFest, an exciting line-up of special events and activities available all summer long – from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend at Gaylord Hotels.  Located in or near Washington, D.C., Nashville, Orlando and Dallas, the four Gaylord Hotels are destinations unto themselves. Each property’s unique design provides a stunning backdrop for relaxing fun, whether it’s a family vacation or a couple’s getaway, with entertainment, art and architecture celebrating each area’s local history.

Best of all – and new for SummerFest – we can now earn Marriott Rewards points when we stay at Gaylord Hotels.

As part of SummerFest, we can enjoy the Summer DreamWorks experience and vacation with the beloved characters from DreamWorks Animation films such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Puss In Boots and Madagascar. Interactive DreamWorks-themed activities created exclusively for kids and families will make our stay unforgettable.

At each resort, discover delicious dining options overseen by award-winning chefs who showcase regional delicacies, full-service spas and salons, indoor and outdoor pools, access to golf, shopping and much more. Or, with convenient transportation options available at each resort to local attractions,  set off on excursions to explore the exciting offerings found in each region.

Mayflower Renaissance Hotel

The Nation’s capital is known to have a few ghost stories and spooky tales, and is a perfect locale for us who are looking to get away this Halloween. From the Exorcist Steps of Georgetown to Capitol Hill, they have been some mysterious occurrences throughout the history of the District.

As Halloween approaches, one of the city’s iconic and haunted landmarks, The Mayflower Renaissance, is offering a Haunted on the Hillpackage, allowing travelers the chance to discover the hidden secrets of DC, as well as the hotel’s eerie past.

TheHaunted on the Hill ” package is available from October 31 through November 3 and includes:

  • Rates starting at $334 per night
  • Complimentary breakfast for two in Edgar Bar & Kitchen
  • Two tickets to the Halloween Ghost Tour of Washington DC (Tour is 90 minutes and just 1/4 mile walk)
  • Pumpkin-shaped bowl full of treats

We won’t witness any ghosts on October 31 at The Mayflower, but each Inauguration night (January 20) since 1937, the hotel experiences flickering lights, stalled elevators and mysterious guests in the balcony of the ballroom. Some have said that these strange actions are linked to the ghost of President Calvin Coolidge, who stayed at the hotel for his Inauguration Ball, but didn’t attend because he was mourning his sixteen-year-old son’s tragic death from blood poisoning. Perhaps knowing that he missed his Inaugural Ball, “Silent Cal” Coolidge is making up for that historical evening and attending, in spirit, each January 20.

To make your reservation at The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, please visit www.RenaissanceMayflower.com or call 1-800-228-9290.

Stay up to date on what’s happening at the hotel and in the DC area by visiting The Mayflower on Facebook or Twitter.
